Under Siege IX: Sleepers

Sorry, too shattered to post today. Suffice it to say that more have left, including our best friends here, and that it was the first time I cried. Keep the emails coming - we're really touched that so many of you are thinking of us, and that you are reading the blog. Keep Lebanon in your thoughts - they're really grateful for your support.

Sydney is also fine and sends her best. No chick yet...

Fi,

I've finally found a computer to look at your blog - the DCA firewall sees to it that anything in any way informative or entertaining is blocked - hence my tardiness. It's fantastic, a real insight into what's going on (as well as an effective means of keeping all your worried friends reassured that you're both ok!) particularly glad to see you're keeping your sense of humour in spite of the prevailing circumstances. I have this very strong image of you clipboard in hand ensuring that everyone gets on those boats!
Love you lots and take very good care,
Charlotte xx

Hi Fiona

Puts problems with JC+ in perspective. Events like this leave you feeling helpless in the face of man's determination to inflict suffering on their fellows. My father was in palestine in 1947 trying to stop Palestinians and Israeli's from killing each other. Their grandchildren are now continuing the fight storing up a new legacy of hatred for future generations. Israel must realise that force alone is not the answer. In the long run Israel can only survive through an equitable peace. One that guarantees Israel's security but gives Palestinians a life worth living and compensation for those that lost their homes in 1947. It will need some sacrifices on both sides. To achieve that will show real courage. Stay safe.

Works computer is letting me answer your blog. Huzzah.

Please consider getting on a boat at the soonest opportunity, if only to put us poor worried little pansies at rest. The thought of you and Dom (and The Bird) out there is very frightening.

The blog is fascinating reading though and a big insight.

Take very much care please.

lots of love

Yo Walshe!

It was on the news this morning that the nutty Captain Hook preacher who left Britain before we could arrest him tried to get on a British boat yesterday...

I hope you whacked him on the head with your clipboard!

The news did say that he wasn't allowed onboard and I have a wonderful image of you staring down The Hook in my head!

Amazing how someone with such a big gob about 'destroying Israel' actually wants to be back in Watford when the fighting starts and he gets his big chance...

Anyay, keep safe and make sure you keep a space on the boat for the two of you if needs be....and get a pet passport for Sydney!

Hello loves,

First time on here for me - am now hooked. Great to get the reassurance of hearing the updates.

I am sure you are an absolute brick to the very frightened people leaving, Fi. Keep up the good work my sweet, it will help you to keep calm.

Needless to say we all want to see you home very soon, although can understand why, in some ways, you might be reluctant to leave.

I do hope you are arranging a jolly good sing-song to keep the evacuees' spirits up! ("My old man said follow the navy destroyer, and don't dilly dally on the way..." - damn, doesn't scan...)

Fi,

Your latest note made me cry (- you know how easy that is!!) and for the first time I feel it will be nice to see you both (plus Sydney & baby) back. But at the same time, I can understand why you want to stay at least for now.

Everyone here (and Mum) keep asking about your well-being and they all send their love.

Be brave, take care, keep smiling and keep up with the good work.

Lots of love,

Raman

Hi Fi & Dom,

Haven't commented before cos I didn't (don't!) have anything intelligent to add, but just thought I would let you know I've been totally gripped by your bulletins, as are several of my friends now. You are both incredibly brave, & I'm so glad each time to hear you're ok. Keep at it!

Hi Fi,

I'm a friend of Charlotte who came to your leaving drinks in Balham! The blog is really interesting and I totally agree with all your comments on perspective between Israeli and Lebannese deaths - Robert Fisk in 'The Independent' has been writing about this bizarre 'exchange rate of death'....anyway the insight is way more revealing than the media coverage - good luck to both of you over the next few weeks - and keep up the blogging if you can
